March at UB HQ

Continuing the theme from February, March was just as busy – and April too, if the lateness of this blog post is anything to go by!

At the start of March, managing director Jem attended the annual conference for Women in Tech SEO – WTSFest – in London. Aptly held on International Women’s Day, this one-day conference was a whirlwind of education, inspiration, and networking opportunities with incredible women from across the SEO and digital marketing industry.

Jem’s stand-out talk of the day was Starting with Bias in AI Might be the Solution, by Joyann Boyce. Exploring bias in AI, the talk very quickly demonstrated how easy it is to fall foul of the inherent bias in computer generated content by revealing the results for the prompts such as “SEO expert” (spoilers: white men at their computers) and how we can get round that by utilising more inclusive language in our prompts from the outset.

WTSFest is an incredible conference every year, with the dedication and effort from Areej AbuAli and her team shining through.

Away from the desk and the nerdery of work and SEO, Ultimately Better team members Matt and Jem also ran a half marathon in March, completing the Sherwood Pines forest trail half marathon – for fun! Who does that?

Last but very much not least, the brand update alluded to in February’s post is well underway. We hoped to have it ready in advance of our birthday but it’s had to take a back seat to client work. Here’s to a (slightly) quieter April so we can get that one ready for the big reveal.

See you in April (it is nearly May, I know…)
