Matt Runs 300km in January to Raise Funds for Princess Royal University Hospital in Kent

Matt Coleman, Operations Manager here at Ultimately Better, has successfully completed a self-set challenge to run 300km in January to raise funds for the Hyper Acute Stroke Unit at the Princess Royal University Hospital in Kent.

While most of us were hunkering down in January trying to get through the only month with 500 days (am I right?) Matt was out there pounding the pavement clocking up the miles.

As if running 300km in a single month isn’t an achivement in itself – that’s 186.411 miles, imperial measurement fans – Matt made it worse for himself by setting the course as a single 1km loop. Because who doesn’t like running 300+ times round the same tedious circle?

To put it into perspective, 300km is:

  • About two thirds of the Grand Canyon
  • About two and a half times the length of Hadrian’s Wall
  • About three and a half times the length of The Panama Canal
  • About three times as wide as The English Channel (average width between Isle of Ushant and The Walde Lighthouse)

Stats from themeasureofthings.com

Matt set himself the – I don’t think he’ll mind me saying, frankly absurd – goal of running 300km to raise £1,000 for the PRUH stroke unit after a friend received care there in 2023 following a stroke that left them unable to use one of their legs. Matt successfully reached both his distance goal of 300km (actually, 302km to be precise) and his fundraising goal on January 31st, and here at Ultimately Better we couldn’t be more proud.

It’s not too late to donate to Matt’s fundraiser; to find out more about Matt’s challenge, the story and to donate, please visit his JustGiving page.
