In 2022 Peirene launched under new management under a complete rebrand led by Glasgow-based art director Orlando Lloyd.

As part of the brand overhaul, the existing website design and WooCommerce integration needed redeveloping to bring it up to date, ensuring the ongoing stability and security for customers but without compromising the integrity of existing subscriptions or order data.

Working closely with the client, the WordPress website was redeveloped to the exacting requirements of Orlando’s design. Ultimately Better, led by Jem Turner, created a bespoke WordPress theme with full WooCommerce support, prioritising accessibility, security and performance.

The site was integrated into the WordPress Gutenberg editor, allowing the client full control over their content and pages going forward, while still maintaining design standards in keeping with the provided brand guidelines.

The site makes use of some custom WooCommerce development as well as integration into the Glassboxx API to power e-book purchasing and downloads.

There were some challenges during the build process caused by assumptions on both sides of the table; there were expectations from the designer that weren’t stipulated during scoping, and we assumed that accessibility and usability were a priority over aesthetics.

We were able to work together to come to some compromises which allowed the designer the flourishes he’d hoped for, without compromising the overall user experience of the website for customers.

The Peirene Press website suffered a 15% dip in traffic on launch but this recovered and is now receiving almost twice the unique views*

The client is empowered to manage their own content, imagery and product range with ease

We’ve since worked with Peirene on a number of updates and maintenance tasks for their website

Just wanted to say a Really Big Thank You for all your work [..] we really appreciate you guiding us into the port and getting the website looking and working great.
