Our Values
We believe that treating people fairly shouldn’t be a marketing angle, and that being “ultimately better” should stand for something more than just good code.
What we’re doing…
For our staff
We believe that everyone should be given the tools to succeed at work regardless of their background, ethnicity, religion, age group, sexual orientation and so on.
To support this, our team are offered fully flexible working arrangements. This might be as simple as starting earlier or later in the day, right up to & including term time only contracts allowing parents to work around their children.
Everyone receives fair pay, with transparent salaries at an industry standard level, and we’re an accredited Living Wage Employer.
Similarly, our freelance contractors are paid on receipt of invoice so they never have to wait or chase for payment.
We try to meet employees where they’re at with neuroinclusive practises such as giving tasks in a format that is most accessible for that individual, e.g. written instructions to allow time to process, or on screen examples and demonstrative videos.
We offer training courses and professional development and support staff to attend conferences if desired (where time and budgets allow).
For our clients
We have transparent value-based pricing, with no hidden or unexpected costs.
We communicate in plain English, and will never bamboozle our customers with unexplained jargon or overly technical terms for the sake of it.
We scope honestly, and will always tell you if we think you’re paying for something you don’t need.
We seek to maintain exceptional standards of work, meeting minimum accessibility and coding standards where relevant.
We have a written customer care commitment so that you can hold us to our standards at all times.
For the environment
We host all our websites on green web hosting.
We actively practice and recommend sustainable web development practices to reduce ‘digital pollution’ and costs to our customers.
We do not use generative AI to create work that we could pay someone for, i.e. artwork or copywriting, due to ongoing concerns about the environmental (and ethical) impact.
We work remotely, always: we’re not contributing to commuting traffic, we’re not utilising extra energy to run additional offices.
For charities & communities
We offer discounted rates to charities and non-profit organisations.
We aim to create one pro bono website per year for charities and community projects.
We regularly donate profits to charities, and support team fundraising for their chosen causes.
What we’re working towards…
For our staff
A formal mental health policy with paid support such as counselling or other therapies.
A structured professional development budget, e.g. a fixed annual amount per person.
Documented career progression to give our juniors concrete goals to work towards.
For our clients
We are working towards our cyber essentials accreditation to back up the ‘unwritten’ high standards of security we operate internally.
For the environment
We should document and formalise our carbon calculations on a per-project basis so we can be sure we’re consistently meeting our carbon goals.
We should implement a ‘stale data’ policy to encourage internal data/file clean up to decrease our ongoing “digital polution”.
