NewsThump is a nonpartisan satirical news website, taking a daily swipe at current affairs from the UK and around the world. It is owned and published by Thump Publishing Limited.
The Brief
NewsThump wanted to reach a greater audience with a more modern, responsive WordPress theme, as well as closer integration of a list of required plugins.
A refresh would allow them to retire a premade template from a popular theme provider that hadn’t been updated in some time, securing the site and allowing it to be updated without risk of breakages.
What We Did
Working closely with designer Lilian Tula, we created a design proposition for NewsThump that targeted their key requirements for their new WordPress theme build, as well as suggesting further improvements that could benefit their target audience.
As the theme build progressed, we continued to work closely with NewsThump to meet a changing scope, including retroactively adding Gutenberg support as it became clear that it would be the dominant editor going forwards and adding support for the NewsThump ad delivery platform.
The Client Said…
We used Jem and her team for our website redesign and rebuild. We’ve been using WordPress for many years, but our old theme was very much out of date by 2022. Jem and the team helped bring our site right up to date, from the design work right through to the development and go live assistance.
I’m not particularly technical, so it was great to be able to have non-technical conversations about our aims and objectives and have Jem turn them into technical requirements they could deliver.
Like all technology projects, there have been a few glitches along the way (anyone who promises there won’t be any issues in a site redevelopment project is lying to you), but the team at Ultimately Better have always been extremely quick to address any problems, and creative with their solutions to any issues we’ve stumbled into.
If you’re looking for an agency to help with your WordPress development, I can’t recommend them highly enough. I’d use them again in a heartbeat.
